- We colored mitten and animals for the story "the Mitten". The girls will need to complete this at home. Color the pages cut out the mittens right/left, color/cut out the animals, and write name on the back of each piece. I would suggest that these pieces should be laminated so they will take wear and tear. The mittens then need to be attached front and back so that there is a "pocket" where the animals hide. These could be glued (only around the perimeter) or holes can be punched and with some yarn they can be whipped stitched together.
- We created our seek and find jars- Some of the girls wanted to still put objects in the jar, so we did not secure the lids. If the girls would like a label they can attach to the jar listing the objects, they only need to bring me a list so that I may know what is contained in their jar. The list is optional.
- We didn't have time to complete our puzzle. They need only to color, draw, or paint a picture on the sticks. After it is drawn, the tape can be removed. Be sure to write on the baggie what the puzzle is "flower puzzle". Also be sure a name is on the bag.
- We made a trail mix that would be a nice snack while babysitting. We also discussed, that they need to ask the parents about any allergies.
We covered some Club Business. Choosing leadership from the older girls in the club. President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasure, Reporter, Service Leader. We are setting up a buddy system and they will help the older girls in their duties, just as the older girls will be helping the younger girls learn about 4H. If you have a suggestion of a buddy team, let us know. We will be making these buddies before the beginning of our meetings this summer.
We discussed several Service ideas: Collecting stuffed animals for the Children's justice center, Sewing Receiving Blankets for the Primary Children's Hospital.
We also discussed ideas for Fundraisers, to help offset out-of-pocket expenses. We will be doing things a little different this summer, and isn't feasible for us to shoulder the expenses this summer. We hope that together we can find a solution. Suggestions that were given: yard sale, bake sale, sew items (aprons, chill ties), lemonade stand, carnival, make headbands, jewelry, chilli dinner.
As summer is still a ways off, it is never to soon to think about what type of sewing project the girls were to make. 1-2 year girls should choose a project like: an apron, skirt with elastic, or PJ bottoms. (they should choose something different than what they completed in previous years). Those who are more comfortable on a sewing machine should find a pattern that includes either a zipper, button holes, or technique.
